Abstract
Prevention of premature delivery remains a major problem in obstetrics. This study was performed to evaluate the 44 pregnant women with premature labor who were admitted to the Department of Obstetrics and gynecology, Ewha Womans University
Hospital
from April, 1992 to March, 1993.
The auther compared the relative efficacy and maternal/noenatal effects of combination therapy of indomethacin and ritodrine (group I) with single therapy of ritodrine (group II).
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1. There were no statistical differences between the clinical characteristics of patients in the two group.
2. Prolongation of gestation was 35.4¡¾2.71 days in group I and 38.5¡¾27.0 days in group II. Gestational weeks at delivery was 36.1¡¾2.3 weeks in group I and 36.8¡¾2.1 weeks in group II. There were no statistical differences between the
prolongation of
gestation and gestational weeks at delivery in the two group.
3. Complete and total (cmplete and partial) success rate were 55% and 80% in group I and 54% and 79% in group II. There were no statistial differences.
4. Birth weight, 1 min and 5 min Apgar scores in neonates were not statistical differences in the two group (2.8¡¾0.5kg, 7.8¡¾0.7and 8.7¡¾0.8 in group I; 2.9¡¾0.6kg, 7.7¡¾0.7 and 8.8¡¾0.9 in group II).
5. There were no premature closure of fetal ductus arteriosus and oligohydramnios in group I. Maternal/fetal tachycardia and palpitation were significantly lower in group I than group II.
In conclusion, combination therapy of small amount of indomethacin and ritodrine was a effective and safe regimen for the premature labor without adverse effect on fetus by Indomethacin and was less in maternal side effects by ritodrine
